MLS 590 - American Civil Liberties Credit(s): 4 This course will examine the question of the proper balance between national security and civil liberties in times of emergency from the perspectives of political philosophers like John Locke, the founders of American Constitutionalism like Thomas Jefferson, and recent Presidential Administrations like that of G.W. Bush. The primary purpose of this course is to give students a historical perspective on the development of American civil liberties.
