ANT 365 - Real and the Supernatural in Latin America


Examines relationships between belief systems and the economic, social, and political components of their cultures. Focuses on Latin American folklore traditions of the supernatural, including the conditions under which incidences of witchcraft increase; the pharmacological and psychological causes of the Haitian zombie phenomenon; the uses of magic; ritual sorcery among tropical groups; and shamanism and healing. Prerequisite(s): Completion of one ANT course
