ANT 453 - The Brazilian Amazon: Environment and Culture Change Explores the relationship between the ecology of the Brazilian Amazon and human beings who have lived there. Exposes students to the complexity of Amazonian habitats and human strategies within those habitats during different time periods of the region’s history. In particular, examines the social, economic, and environmental impacts resulting from governmental efforts, initiated in the 1960’s, to develop the region, and strategies used by different social groups to address these impacts. Prerequisite(s): ANT 200. Registration preference to ANT majors.
