ANT 351 - Language, Culture and Society


Examines origin of language, linguistic change, variability of speech vis-à-vis social factors (sex, class, ethnicity), and functions of language in shaping and reflecting cultural beliefs and values. Also discusses meaning, metaphor, and special language systems such as jargons, naming, and slang. Prerequisite(s): Junior or senior standing.
