Applied Neuroscience for Clinical Practice Concentration

The Applied Neuroscience for Clinical Practice concentration within the MACMHC degree is designed to provide graduate students in clinical mental health counseling with an in-depth understanding of the neurobiological underpinnings of human behavior, emotions, and cognition. By bridging the gap between neuroscience and mental health practice, this program equips students with the knowledge and skills to apply neuroscientific and evolutionary psychology principles in therapeutic settings. The integration of these disciplines empowers students to enhance the effectiveness of their interventions, grounding their practice in a comprehensive understanding of the brain’s structure, function, and evolutionary development.

Required Practicum and Internship (4 Courses)

Students are also required to complete and submit a professional portfolio which includes assignments, reflections that collectively showcase a student’s competencies, case analyses, and video demonstrations of clinical work. The professional portfolio serves as a testament to their dedication, skill set, and deep understanding of the complex relationship between neuroscience and counseling practices.
