OLIN LIBRARY

Olin Library

When Rollins College was founded in 1885, its library collection consisted of a Bible and a dictionary. Today, more than 100 years later, students have access to a diversity of high-quality library resources, ranging from ancient tomes to the latest technology.

Situated at the heart of campus, the Olin Library building is a four-level structure of almost 75,000 square feet, constructed in the same Spanish Colonial architectural style that dominates the rest of campus. The spaces and technology within the library building are designed to facilitate student creativity and build academic research skills. The experienced team of information, technology, and student support professionals working at the library collaborate on initiatives and programming with the aim of augmenting the overall learning environment at the College.

The Olin Library has a vast collection of electronic databases, academic journals, and other resources addressing all facets of academic pursuit, ranging from the latest scientific research to the history of Shakespearean theater. Holdings currently include more than 300,000 books and 114,000 periodicals. The library also loans a variety of technology and equipment and offers print reserves to Rollins patrons. Furthermore, Olin is home to a number of rare and special collections, including the College Archives, the Florida Collection, the Walt Whitman Collection, and the Rollins Book Arts Collection.

All Library collections reflect the liberal arts mission of the College and enhance the student curricular experience. The library has a dedicated budget to support new and existing collections and leads the College in Open Access and other affordability initiatives for the benefit of the entire community.

Whether online or in person, the library offers students several types of personalized assistance in the area of research and writing, including peer-to-peer tutoring and writing consultations in the Tutoring and Writing Center. Librarians at Olin are partners in campus learning as well. They provide individual reference and research consultations for undergraduate and graduate students via appointments and drop-in office hours. They also collaborate with instructors in the classroom and contribute to pedagogical conversations about curriculum design.

The Olin Library is an integral part of the instructional, intellectual, and cultural life of Rollins College. Its team members are valued campus partners and its services are vital to the College’s community of researchers.
