Policy for Admission to Graduate Programs
Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university are eligible to apply for admission to graduate programs at Rollins College. Application Requirements
All students who wish to enroll in a graduate program must formally apply and submit the graduate application, appropriate application materials and non-refundable application fee. Applications must be filed by the published deadline, application materials will remain on file for one year. An official transcript from the degree granting institution(s) is required prior to matriculation.
All applicants must submit the following documents by the posted admission deadline to be considered for admission:
- Completed Online Application
- Resume
- Statement of Purpose
- Book Essay (Master of Liberal Studies Only)
- (2) Letters of Recommendation
- Non-refundable Application Fee
- Official Transcript(s)
- Language Proficiency Exam for Non-native English Speakers (refer to International Student Admission section for details)
In addition to the above listed application requirements education certificate seeking students must also submit the following documents:
- Statement of Eligibility from the Florida Department of Education
- Copy of the Professional Educator’s Certificate
Additionally, for students who have completed coursework at an International post-secondary college or university transcripts must be translated and evaluated a professional credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). The NACES members most used by Rollins College students are World Education Services (WES), SpanTran or Josef Silny and Associates. All transcript/credit evaluations must be sent directly to Rollins College from the evaluation service.
Admission decisions are made by the program faculty in consultation with the Office of Graduate Admission based on holistic review of the student’s application materials including academic ability, knowledge of the field, appropriate personal and professional conduct, and commitment to their chosen field.
Once admitted applicants must submit a $250 enrollment deposit by the deadline outlined on their acceptance letter.
All degree students who have been admitted to a graduate program must reapply when planning to begin another degree program.
International Student Admission
International candidates for admission are required to submit evidence of successful completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent international degree (officially evaluated and translated, as necessary). It is the candidate’s responsibility to submit an official evaluation and translation of records as requested by Rollins College. Candidates whose native language is not English are required to submit evidence of their English language ability. The following are accepted as evidence: an official score report from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 550 or better (paper-based); 213 or better (computer-based); or, 80 or better (internet-based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5 or better or Duolingo English Test (DET) with a score of 120 or higher. Candidates who earned their undergraduate degree is from the United States, or from an institution that provides a fully English learning environment or have successfully completed an intensive English language program are exempted from the English language proficiency testing requirement.
International student applicants are required to advise Rollins College of their current immigration status. The I-20 A-B/I-20ID, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status, is issued only after the student has (1) been fully accepted to a Rollins graduate program and paid the non-refundable enrollment deposit; (2) submitted all official transcripts (translated, if necessary); and (3) a Statement of Financial Responsibility including appropriate documentation that sufficient financial resources are available to finance one full year of graduate studies in the program of acceptance. Only full-time student status will qualify students for F-1 visas.
Accepted international students (with J-1 or F-1 visas) are required to purchase health insurance coverage that includes repatriation and medical evacuation. This requirement is not meant to be punitive but is a protection for the international student against the high cost of medical care in the United States.
Provisional Admission
Provisional admission may be granted to students by the program faculty based on deficits in any of the key areas of the application including academic performance or understanding and knowledge of the field. Students admitted provisionally must earn a “B” (3.0) or higher in all first-semester classes. Failure to meet this requirement will result in academic dismissal at the end of that semester.
Admission of Undergraduate Students- Graduate Accelerated Program (GAP
Rollins College Graduate Studies offers an accelerated pathway leading from a B.A./A.B. to a graduate degree by allowing students to earn up to 18 credits at Rollins College that could be applied to the fulfillment of both undergraduate and graduate program requirements. Undergraduate students accepted into this accelerated program have the opportunity to take graduate level coursework in during their senior year which will simultaneously fulfill undergraduate general elective requirements as well as apply toward graduate degree requirements in a participating Holt graduate program. Dual Enrollment
A student may not enroll in more than one graduate degree program at Rollins College. An applicant enrolled full time in a graduate degree program at another institution of higher learning will not be admitted to a graduate program at Rollins College.
A non-degree seeking student who holds a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university may enroll, as space permits, in an elective course in the Master of Liberal Studies, Master of Human Resources or Master of Arts in Teaching program.
Students must complete all application requirements previously listed and submit their materials by the posted deadline to be considered for admission. Space is limited and provided to degree seeking students first.
Non- degree seeking students who wish to take a second course must earn a grade of “B” or better in the first course unless an exception is granted by the program director. Non-degree seeking students may enroll in no more than three four-credit courses or their equivalent before being required to enroll as a degree seeking student.
Non-student auditors, College faculty or staff, and members of the community, must seek admission by submitting an Auditors Application for Admission to the Admissions Office and submit an official transcript documenting completion of a bachelor’s degree.
Once admitted, auditors must contact Holt Student Services to register. Instructor and program director approval is required. Registrations will not be processed until the first week of the term as priority is given to degree-seeking students. Courses will not be overloaded for an audit student. Also, some courses may be closed to auditors.
Degree-seeking students in the Hamilton Holt School who register as auditors in will be charged the auditor rate for the course. Degree-seeking students from other programs of the College (e.g., CLA or Crummer) may audit courses on a space-available basis at no cost under the guidelines for cross-enrollment articulated in the College catalog and/or handbook.
Students not originally enrolled as auditors who wish to change their status to that of auditor must do so prior to the end of official (add-drop) period for the semester; they will not receive a tuition discount or refund. Audit course registrations may not be converted to academic credit after the end of official schedule change (add-drop) period for the semester.
