Academic advising is an intentional, collaborative relationship essential to students’ ability to reach their goals and make meaning of their liberal arts education. Faculty advisors are central to the mission of the College, “empowering graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.”
Academic advising is also a dynamic, developmental decision-making process that assists students in clarifying long-term goals and the educational plans for realizing those goals. Students are expected to consider carefully the selection of courses before consulting their faculty advisors and assume all responsibility for complying with academic deadlines and requirements.
Students may register for courses after they have received permission from their academic advisor. Advisors are not obligated to grant permission to register for any advisee who has failed to meet with them.
Questions or comments about academic advising should be directed to the Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
RCC Faculty Advisor
First-year students are served by faculty advisors who teach Rollins College Conference (RCC) courses. These advisors help guide them through the Rollins Foundations in the Liberal Arts (rFLA) curriculum and an exploration of major and elective courses. RCC advisors also assist first-year students in the transition to college, our community’s expectations, and the opportunities our campus provides.
Major Advisor(s)
When students declare a major (by the spring semester of their sophomore year), they also select an advisor in the major. Students who double major may also choose an advisor in that major. Major advisor(s) help students develop a plan to complete degree requirements and prepare for life after graduation.
Changing an Advisor
When a student declares a major or minor, the “CLA Major/Minor Declaration or Change” form on MyRollins also allows them to change their advisor(s). Students may also request a simple change of advisor separate from a major/minor declaration on the same form.
