To earn the Artium Baccalaureus (A.B.) Degree students must complete a minimum of 140 credits, earn a minimum major and cumulative GPA of 2.00, fulfill the college’s residency and Rollins Foundations for the Liberal Arts requirements as follows.

Complete all of the following:

Rollins students receiving the Bachelor of Arts degree are required to complete the Rollins Foundations in the Liberal Arts (rFLA) curriculum. This curriculum is for all students matriculating in fall 2018 or later. Students who matriculated prior to fall 2018 may elect to follow the new rFLA requirements. Students under rFLA requirements in effect prior to fall 2018 and who withdraw or take a leave of absence for more than two years must follow the rFLA requirements in effect at the time of readmission.

1. Complete a minimum of 140 credits

A minimum of 70 credits must be completed at Rollins. Rollins approved study abroad credits count toward this minimum.  In addition, students must complete a minimum of sixty-four (64) semester hours or 16 courses at three (3) credits or higher outside a single departmental prefix and that are not used to meet either a general education or a major requirement.

2. Complete the requirements for at least one major

Students must satisfactorily fulfill the requirements of an established major or the plan of study of a self-designed major. Department chairs or program coordinators must approve course substitutions within the major. In addition, students must earn a minimum grade point average of 2.00 (‘C’) in the courses approved for the major.

A declaration of major must be filed in the Registrar’s Office prior to registration for the junior year. Students who do not file declarations of major will not be allowed to register for subsequent terms.

Majors are noted on a student’s official academic transcript, but not on the diploma.

3. Rollins Foundations in the Liberal Arts (rFLA)

rFLA has three components: the Rollins College Conference (RCC), Competencies (4 courses), and Foundations Seminars (5 courses).  Students must earn a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (‘C’) across all three components of rFLA.

Students complete the rFLA graduation requirement as follows:

I. Rollins College Conference (RCC 100)

RCC 100   is required for all first-year students.

Students may not withdraw from  their RCC course, and in rare, extenuating circumstances a student may consult with/appeal to the Associate Dean for Academics in order to exercise their one-time CR/NC option for this course.  Students who fail their RCC course are not required to retake the class.

Transfer students with fewer than 12 transferrable credits are required to enroll in RCC 100; transfer students with 12 or more transferrable credits are required to enroll in RCC 200 in their first semester of enrollment.

II. The Competencies

Writing (WCMP)  Minimum grade C required.

Foreign Language (FCMP)  Minimum grade C- required.

Mathematical Thinking (MCMP)  Minimum grade C- required.

Ethical Reasoning (ECMP)

III. The Foundations Seminars (RFLA)

Students must complete five (5) foundations seminars, one from each of the following categories:  social sciences (C), expressive arts (A), sciences (S), and humanities (H)

  • RFLA 100 (typically taken in the spring semester of the first year)
  • RFLA 200 (3 courses required)
  • RFLA 300

Students may also choose use one course (typically offered in the major) from a list of regular courses that will count toward at the 200-level as C, A, S or H.

Students may double count no more than one (1) Foundations Seminar toward their major or minor.

Transfer Students and rFLA

Students entering Rollins with an associate of arts (AA) degree from any regionally accredited college or university are exempt from the rFLA requirements with the exception of the Rollins College Conference (RCC 200). Note:  RCC 200 course requirement is on hiatus for the 2022-23 academic year.  New transfer students who enter Rollins fall 2022 or spring 2023 are not required to take RCC 200.

Transfer students entering Rollins without an AA degree will receive, as part of the transfer credit evaluation, an individual audit of their prior coursework to determine which transfer credits, if any, can be used to count toward competency requirements and/or Foundations Seminars disciplinary designations.

4. Satisfy Residency Requirement

Once admitted to full-time degree status in the College of Liberal Arts, students must complete at least seventy (70) semester hours in the College (including Rollins or Rollins-affiliated off-campus courses, and approved Hamilton Holt School courses). Moreover, students must be enrolled full-time in the College of Liberal Arts during the last two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summer terms).
