Strategic Communication (M.A.)

The Strategic Communication Master of Arts program will develop students’ abilities to create and execute communication initiatives that address global and local social issues, influence key publics’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, and/or further an organization’s ability to achieve its mission. Graduates of this program will develop the intellectual, managerial, and communication skills necessary to conduct formative research and then lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategic communication initiatives. 

 

Mission Statement


The Master of Arts in Strategic Communication program combines theory and real-world practice to solve social problems in a globally networked, multicultural world. It is designed to help students gain the professional and technical skills they need to advance their careers while learning to develop socially responsible messaging strategies that help organizations reach their goals. 

Program of Study


Students complete the program in five semesters, taking two courses per term. An accelerated four-semester track is available only to students requiring full-time enrollment for visa or NCAA eligibility purposes. Unless otherwise approved, courses must be taken in the assigned sequences.

Curriculum (30 credits)


The 30-credit-hour Master of Arts in Strategic Communication curriculum includes 27 hours of required core courses and three hours of electives. Students must complete a capstone project focused on creating and measuring campaigns, as well as either an experiential learning or organizational leadership course.
