Meet the Faculty
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures embraces language, literature, and culture. Advanced courses prepare students for graduate study, research, teaching, or the use of foreign languages in professional fields. The department offers two programs for majors – one for native speakers, the other for nonnative speakers. Because native speakers vary in language proficiency, faculty determine whether to classify a student as a native speaker.

Minor Requirements
Students should take 6 courses above the 200 level. Native speakers cannot register for any 200-level courses.
Complete six (6) of the following:
Study Abroad
Students who participate in the Asturias Program in Spain or the Buenos Aires Program for one semester can count towards the minor a maximum of 2 Spanish courses taken abroad. These courses must be pre-approved by the Hispanic Studies Program Director. Students who participate in the Verano Español can only count 2 courses towards the minor.
