Rollins College cooperates with Case Western Reserve and Washington (St. Louis) University in combined programs designed for students who wish to become professional engineers. Students attend Rollins for three years in a program of liberal arts and science before transferring to the engineering school. Students receive a bachelor’s (A.B.) degree from Rollins and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from the engineering school.

To receive the A.B. degree from Rollins College with a major in Engineering Studies, students must complete a set of core requirements in the sciences and mathematics, must satisfy all general education requirements of the College, and must sucessfully complete at least one year of study leading to the B.S. in engineering at one of the cooperative engineering schools. Requirements for the A.B. degree are typically met by the end of the fifth year of study. It is very important for students to understand that the Engineering Studies major cannot be completed without attending one of the approved cooperative institutions.

Other fields are engineering and management systems, engineering mechanics, and computer science and engineering.

Required Electives (4)

Students must complete four (4) STEM prefix courses (BIO, BCH, CHM, CMS MAT, PHY). At least three electives must be completed at the 200-level or higher. Courses that do not count toward any specific STEM major (i.e. MAT 109 does not count toward the mathematics major), may not be used as an Engineering Studies major elective.

Interest Areas

Engineering Studies majors will work closely with an advisor to develope a plan of study that will prepare the student for further study at one of the partner insitutions. Sample plans include:

Major Policies

The Engineering Studies major cannot be completed without attending and sucessfully completing one year of study at the approved cooperative institutions.

NOTE: During the sophomore year, students should meet with the Coordinator of the Cooperative Engineering (Pre-Engineering) Program, and plan a sequence of advanced courses that satisfy the concentration requirement at Rollins. The areas of concentration are similar to a minor in the field of study.
